Richard Singer Band is what I call my “signature band”. When people ask me what my band is called, I say Richard Signer Band. It’s because all the stuff that I do that is completely my style and almost un-inspired is put under this name.
Richard Singer Band began with a small release in 2003 called the Castle Cathedral the record has since been recalled because it was re-recorded for then, KOSTYA’s We Went Past Australia. There was no more work done under the name again until the release of What You Meant by a Definite Yes in August of 2004.
This record was significant because it was the first record that I did all the songs with keyboard in them. During the recording on Marityme Fore Enjoiment that summer, I realized that I could run a patch cable from my headphone port of my new keyboard into the “Line-in” jack in my soundcard to get a direct signal and a pure sound for recording with. I used keyboard in some of the songs featured on Marityme Fore Enjoiment, too.
What You Meant by a Definite Yes is the record that I have seen the most people freak out about. The first copy of it was handed to Andy Ricchuiti and he adored it. People likened some of the sounds to Final Fantasy music (which I still don’t really agree with, but what the heck…) This record was also written completely for Melanie and she loved it.
School started and so did my long-term relationship with Melanie. Music began to become a large reflection of my life. I began writing for another record. As Autumn Sound is a collection of everything I wrote between August 2004 and October 31st, 2004. this was the longest record I have released since We Went Past Australia (still being the longest single-band record yet released).
As Autumn Sound is the second-largest record I’ve ever done. It gave out almost as many copies as We Went Past Australia. Special Editions were released nearly a month afterward. These had videos, photographs, a band bio, songs stories, and extra songs attached onto it. This was probably the largest thing I have ever produced in my entire music career. Shortly after, I released the B-sides of the record in the form of an EP, A Day in the Life of a Warrior EP.
After all the work done on the last record and it’s companion, I took a short break. After about a month I began writing Crop Circles EP and Patrol Cars EP. These were companion records that were meant to fit on pocket CDs and were meant to be bundled together. The music during this period has to be the weirdest music I have ever produced. It sounded mysterious and dark, and some parts were even sad (unlike any music I’d ever written). I believe these records marked a turning point in my musical career and I’ve found my musical style. Crop Circles EP and Patrol Cars EP are basically one record, and they are my favorite record I have ever written. They are also Jesse Perry’s favorites.
Day Watch Night Watch was released in May of 2005, also following the trend of “sad music” which I can’t seem to get away from anymore. Since the release of Day Watch Night Watch, I’ve been taking a long break. During that break I have been playing pianos, guitars, and drums everywhere to make new music to be recorded. All of this new music will be released soon. I am currently working on a record called My Stew is the Stew in the Pot of my Façade and it will be released under the name Richard Signer Band soon. |
